Unnatural Selection Series

These images are my newest series work, for what I hope at some point will be a limited edition artist book. The title of this planned book is "Observations on Unnatural Selection," and is a mock naturalist's journal filled with mythological creatures. Until the book is ready, I am also selling the component images as limited edition photo prints. The discriptions are a brief look at what the book will say about them.

Dragon-Fly

I chanced upon this small creature perched in a tree on my travels to California. Fortunatly it was a chilly day, and the lethargic creature stayed still long enough for this photograph. Of course, he was gone before I could take another picture.

Kendhal

The faeries are truly elusive creatures, and the males even harder to find. I was fortunate enough to spot this fellow resting for a moment in an otherwise nondescript meadow. Alas, this was the only good picture I was able to get of him, and I did not see any of his fellow faeries.

Griffin

Thank goodness for a good zoom lens - I wouldn't want to get any closer to this giant winged predator than I did. As it was, I thought I was done for when he looked at me for a moment and ruffled his wings! Still, this photograph may confirm the myth that griffins, like dragons, horde the occasional shiny trinket.

Sun Dancer

Staying awake for the sunrise really paid off! Before the sun had even begun to burn the dew off the leaves, I spotted this delicate fairy welcoming the morning sun. Staying very still, I watched her dance for several minutes, flitting from flower to flower. What a wonderful day to start the day!
